When you walk through the doors of Medilife Hospital on Biashara Road in Ruiru, the first thing you will notice is our reception area. Our front desk staff will greet you and help you get registered if it is your first time. If you have visited before, the process is even faster because your records are already in our system.
Registration and Check-In
Bring your national ID or passport, your insurance card (NHIF or private), and any previous medical records that are relevant to your visit. If another doctor referred you to us, bring the referral letter as well. Registration takes about five to ten minutes for new patients.
Triage and Initial Assessment
After registration, a nurse will take your vital signs: blood pressure, temperature, weight, and pulse. This helps the doctor understand your baseline health before the consultation. If you are visiting for an emergency, our triage system prioritizes urgent cases so you will be seen immediately.
Doctor Consultation
You will be directed to the appropriate outpatient clinic based on your needs. Our general practitioners handle routine checkups, minor illnesses, and chronic disease follow-ups. If you need specialist care, we have consultants in urology, gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics, dental, and ophthalmology. Specialist consultations are typically by appointment, so calling ahead at +254 738 494 444 saves you waiting time.
Diagnostics and Tests
If the doctor orders blood work, imaging, or other tests, our laboratory and radiology departments are in the same building. Most routine lab results are available the same afternoon. Ultrasound scans are performed by trained sonographers and reported by qualified radiologists.
Pharmacy and Prescription
Once the doctor has reviewed your results and given a diagnosis, any prescribed medications can be filled at our in-house pharmacy. Our pharmacists will explain dosage instructions, potential side effects, and any interactions with other medications you may be taking. We stock a wide range of medications, so you rarely need to visit an external pharmacy.
Payment and Insurance
We accept cash, M-Pesa, bank cards, and most major insurance providers including NHIF. Our billing desk is located near reception and the team can help you understand your bill and process insurance claims. If you have questions about coverage for a specific procedure, call us in advance so we can verify with your insurer.
Follow-Up
Before you leave, the doctor or nurse will explain any follow-up steps: when to come back, what symptoms to watch for, and how to reach us if something changes. For specialist follow-ups, you can book your next appointment at the front desk or by phone.
What Makes the Experience Different
At Medilife, we try to keep wait times reasonable by encouraging appointment-based visits for specialist clinics and operating a clear triage system for walk-ins. The entire hospital is under one roof, so you do not need to travel between buildings for lab work, imaging, pharmacy, or billing. Our team has been serving the Ruiru community since 2018, and we have structured the patient journey to be as straightforward as possible.
